Dr Itzel Lara is an Industrial Biochemistry Engineer; she is a Universidad Autónoma
Metropolitana (UAM) graduate with a specialization in Biotechnology focusing on
environmental microbiology.
She subsequently obtained a Masters degree in Science at the Instituto Tecnológico
y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) with a specialization in
Biotechnology. During her Masters degree, she participated in the development of
drugs for the pharmaceutical industry and the development of a recombinant vaccine
against the influenza virus AH1N1 during the pandemic of 2009.
She was awarded a scholarship by the Fundación Carolina to pursue a second
Master's degree at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona. It was at this
university that she read her Postgraduate Doctoral degree in Biomedicine and
participated in a European project related to neuropathic pain.
During her research, she has published several articles and has participated in
national and international conferences. She has also worked in the pharmaceutical
industry at Novartis in Spain as well as MSD and Merz in Mexico.
